Environmental allergies in dogs
Pollen, mites and mould can cause seasonal itching and discomfort in your dog. We explain what they are, how to spot them, and how we estimate the pollen level in your area.
What are environmental allergies?
Canine atopic dermatitis is an immune reaction to environmental allergens β mainly grass, tree and weed pollen, plus dust mites and mould spores. It's usually seasonal (worse in spring and summer) and hereditary: some breeds are more prone. It can't be cured, but it's well managed with good monitoring.
How we estimate the pollen level
CanAI estimates pollen risk as guidance, combining the time of year, your geographic area and your dog's breed predisposition. It's a seasonal estimate β we don't use real-time pollen data β meant to help you anticipate and stay alert, not to diagnose.
Estimate by season, area and breed (no real-time pollen data).
Symptoms to watch for
If you notice persistent scratching or nibbling, paw licking, skin redness, recurring ear infections (otitis) or localised hair loss, especially in pollen season, mention it to your vet. An early diagnosis stops the problem becoming chronic.
This information is for guidance and does not replace assessment by a licensed vet. For any symptom or health concern, always consult a professional. CanAI does not diagnose.
Keep track of your dog's health
Create their profile and CanAI will alert you to pollen season based on their breed and your area, and keep their history.
