Why an AI for your dog?
We're a small team of dog owners who got tired of contradicting internet advice, expensive last-minute vet visits, forgotten booster dates, and the endless dance of "is this normal?". CanAI is our answer — a pragmatic tool, not a replacement for your vet, but a serious upgrade for responsible owners.
What CanAI does in 2026
1. Portion calculation and food labels
Photograph any UK dog food bag and CanAI explains what the label actually says. It calculates daily grams based on your dog's weight, activity level and the food's kcal density — far more accurate than the bag's vague chart.
2. Vet triage support
Describe a symptom or upload a photo (skin patch, eye, lameness). CanAI helps you sort: emergency vet now, routine appointment this week, or watch and wait. It is not a diagnosis. It saves you time, money and unnecessary panic — and tells you firmly when to go to a vet.
3. Vaccine, flea, worm reminders
Log your dog's last booster, flea treatment, worming and annual check. CanAI reminds you before they expire — before kennel cough lapses for your next holiday, before your AHC (Animal Health Certificate) isn't ready in time.
4. Behaviour coaching
Lead reactivity, separation anxiety, recall trouble, resource guarding. Describe the situation and CanAI suggests an evidence-based plan over 4-6 weeks. When it's beyond an app, CanAI says clearly: this needs an APBC or APDT-registered behaviourist.
5. Breed and adoption advice
"I live in a London flat, work hybrid, want a dog." CanAI helps you choose realistically — size, energy, breed temperament — and filters available rescue dogs from Dogs Trust, RSPCA, Battersea, Many Tears and more.
What CanAI is NOT
- Not a vet replacement. Use it for triage, prep, between-visit questions. Clinical decisions belong with your vet.
- Not a diagnostic tool. Orientation, never definitive judgement.
- Not a prescriber. Over-the-counter advice yes; POM medications stay with your vet.
Why a UK-focused build matters
Generic AI tools translate American context badly. CanAI is built with UK specifics: Kennel Club breeds, BVA / RCVS terminology, vet plan options (Vets4Pets, Medivet, Pets at Home Healthy Pet Club), UK insurance providers (PetPlan, Bought By Many, More Than), Defra travel rules and the XL Bully framework, RSPCA / Dogs Trust adoption process, GB and Ireland regional differences.
