Is dog insurance mandatory in the UK or EU?+
It is not mandatory in the UK. In the EU, third-party liability insurance is mandatory in most German Länder and some Spanish autonomous regions, especially for listed breeds. Always check local rules.
How much does pet insurance cost on average?+
It depends on cover, breed and age. Basic liability tends to be €5–15/month. A full health plan can reach €40–80/month for large breeds or dogs older than 7.
At what age can I insure my dog?+
Most insurers accept dogs from 3 months up to 10–12 years for new policies. The earlier you sign up, the lower the premium and the fewer pre-existing conditions are excluded.
Does insurance cover pre-existing conditions?+
Usually not. Conditions diagnosed before the policy starts are commonly excluded. That is why early sign-up is recommended.
